Berlin, Germany’s first dedicated toon fest holds its second edition Sept. 7-9, 2018. Submissions are now open for the competition categories Animation Film for Children, Student Animation, Berlin Animation, German Animation, International Animation, Feature Animation, and 360° Film. Works produced after March 31, 2017 are qualified to enter by April 15, 2018 (shorts) / June 15, 2018 (features & 360°).
Enter the Hand-Drawn, Hasty World of Getting Shit Done Animation Club
The Milwaukee, WI creative meetup/social club founded by Mark Peterson brings together like-minded talents with the aim of completing all the art, music and voice recording needed for a new animation in one or two fun, frenetic nights. GSDAC has produced four shorts since forming last fall: Party at Dr. Wily’s, Chids Across the World, The Mutilated Man and Generic Space Adventure.
The U.S. Feature Animation Box Office in 2018 (So Far) Has Been Unprecedented
The first two months of the new year have seen an historic six-title inrush of overseas animation to States: Early Man (UK), Mary and the Witch’s Flower (Japan), Bilal: A New Breed of Hero (UAE), Condorito: The Movie (Peru), Have a Nice Day (China) and Tehran Taboo (Germany).
Parity in Action: NFB Releases 2017-2018 Results
Since formally committing to reaching parity for women filmmakers, the National Film Board of Canada reveals that 47% of the year’s completed works were directed by women (15% by mixed teams) and 46% of production spending was allocated to works directed by women (16% to mixed team projects). In 2017, NFB added parity in key creative positions by 2020 to its objectives. The results for the last year’s projects: Screenwriting – 47% women, Editing – 38%, Cinematography – 13%, Music, 4%.
