GKIDS and Fathom Events Date ‘Fireworks’ US Release

GKIDS and Fathom Events are continuing their partnership to present five new animated titles to US moviegoers this year. First up will be Akiyuki Shinbo’s Fireworks, to be released in theaters nationwide beginning July 3 in both the original Japanese and a new English version produced by GKIDS. Produced by Genki Kawamura, who was behind the highest-ever-grossing anime Your Name., the pic was acquired from Toho in March.

“We are excited to continue our partnership with GKIDS to offer brand new animated content in cinemas nationwide, starting with Fireworks,” Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt said. “Fans of all ages will have the opportunity to experience the best of animation on the big screen throughout the year in a communal environment.”

Fireworks will receive a special Fathom Events premiere screening on July 3, with encores on July 5 and 7. GKIDS will kick off the theatrical release on July 4, appropriately. Showtimes, theater locations and ticketing will be announced in the coming weeks via fathomevents.com and fireworksmovie.com.

“GKIDS is thrilled to present Fireworks to anime and movie fans across the US this summer, and to expand on our successful relationship with Fathom to bring more of the best animated films to the big screen throughout the year,” GKIDS CEO Eric Beckman said. “Our goal is to create a unique and exciting cinema event experience for moviegoers to come and enjoy these amazing films together with friends and family.”

The companies have previously teamed for theatre events such as the US premiere of Mary and the Witch’s Flower (Studio Ponoc) and the ongoing Studio Ghibli Fest.
