Sony Gets Hopping on ‘Peter Rabbit 2’

Sony Pictures has dated a sequel to its surprise hybrid box-office breakout Peter Rabbit, with the second CG/live-action adventure slated for February 7, 2020 in the US and March 27, 2020 in the UK, where it set a record as the studio’s biggest non-Bond success.

Directed by Will Gluck, the energetic modernization of Beatrix Potter’s classic characters defied critical skepticism to earn a worldwide take of $326,725,343 so far ($114,625,343 domestic), beating out either of the more highly praised Paddington films. Peter Rabbit stars Rose Byrne, Domhnall Gleeson and Sam Neill, with Peter voiced by James Corden, and Margot Robbie, Elizabeth Debicki and Daisy Ridley voicing his triplet sisters Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail, respectively.

Sony rescheduled an untitled animated feature project produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The LEGO Movie), moving it up to January 10, 2020 to make room for Peter Rabbit 2.

The upcoming Sony Pictures Animation slate also includes this summer’s Hotel Transylvania 3 (July 13), Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (Dec. 14), Jackie Chan co-pro Wish Dragon (July 26, 2019), and Lin-Manuel Miranda musical Vivo (Nov. 6, 2020).
