Oscar-nominated visual effects studio Image Engine has added visual effects supervisors Christian Irles and Joern Grosshans to its Vancouver headquarters roster. The new appointments bring a wealth of experience to the team, including producing visual effects work at MPC, Pixomondo and Image Engine’s partner company, Cinesite, on projects such as Mary Poppins Returns and Game of Thrones.

Irles and Grosshans’ appointment comes as Image Engine continues to grow and gain in reputation as a world-class visual effects studio capable of delivering multiple projects across the globe, augmented by partner company Cinesite in Montreal and London.

Christian Irles is a visual effects supervisor with over 15 years’ experience in the industry. He joins Image Engine from partner company Cinesite, where he completed work on the blockbuster adaptation of the Assassin’s Creed video game and the eagerly awaited upcoming Mary Poppins Returns. Previously, Irles worked for MPC in their London, Vancouver and Montreal studios, delivering work on projects such as The Golden Compass, Poseidon and Into the Woods. His creative leadership and eye for detail will be brought to bear on a slate of upcoming Image Engine projects.
Joern Grosshans is an Emmy- and VES Award-winning visual effects supervisor with 14 years’ experience in the industry. Grosshans has supervised titles such as Independence Day: Resurgence on behalf of Mackevision, and Star Trek Into Darkness, Oblivion, and Academy Award winner for Best Achievement in Visual Effects Hugo, on behalf of Pixomondo. He has also acted as visual effects supervisor on six seasons of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Grosshans has an in-depth understanding of VFX from development through to delivery.
Image Engine’s current slate includes Warner Bros’ Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Legendary Pictures’ Skyscraper. Recent projects include Game of Thrones, Lost in Space and Thor: Ragnarok.
