There’s a new player in the long-format streaming game. After weeks of rumors, the popular social media photo and video platform has officially announced the new venture. IGTV’s introductory blog post announced that creators LaurDIY and King Bach will be launching shows. Now, let’s get some animation on there!

Two US Premieres Set for AX 2018
Anime Expo will present two national feature premieres of highly anticipated Japanese titles in LA this summer. On Friday, July 6, aficianados can catch the first stateside screening of Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms writer/director Mari Okada and P.A. Works CEO/Founder Kenji Horikawa attending as Guests of Honor, presented by North American distributor ELEVEN Arts Anime Studio. Then on Sunday, July 8, Pony Canyon presents the romantic coming-of-age story Kase-san and Morning Glories with director Takuay Sato and producer Yusuke Terada.

Saturday: ‘Art of Incredibles 2’ at Nucleus Gallery
Head to the LA area for the Pixar flick exhibition’s opening reception from 2-5 p.m., including a behind-the-scenes panel and book signing with creative consultant & character designer Teddy Newton, character art director Deanna Marsigliese, and graphic arts director Josh Holtsclaw.

DEADLINE APPROACHING: GLAS Animation Grant
The newly launched program for independent animation filmmakers in the US (working outside academic institutions) is looking to give out two $2,500 grants for short films this year. Applications are open until July 30, 2018, with the awardees to be announced in October.

WATCH: ‘Fireworks’ English-Language Trailer
Produced by Genki Kawamura (Your Name.) and directed by Akiyuki Shinbo, studio Shaft’s sci-fi fantasy teen love tale anchors on the triangle of shy norimichi, fast-taking Yusuke, and the elusive classmate they’re both goo-goo for, Nazuna. A scheme to runaway from home and a glowing ball with the power to reset time combine into a reality-twisting adventure. GKIDS is rolling out the film in the US starting with a Fathom Events premiere July 3.
