With Google Spotlight Stories’ latest animated VR film Age of Sail set to make its world premiere at the prestigious Venice Film Festival (Aug. 29-Sept. 8), intrigued fans are treated to the release of the first official trailer and the news that the film will make its North American debut during the LA Film Festival’s VR & Immersive Storytelling Showcase: The Portal, at the new Loyola Marymount Playa Vista campus (Sept. 22-23).
Directed by Oscar-winning director John Kahrs (Paperman) Age of Sail is set on the open ocean in 1900. The story centers on William Avery (voiced by Ian McShane), an old sailor adrift and alone in the North Atlantic. When Avery reluctantly rescues a teen (Cathy Ang) who has mysteriously fallen overboard, he finds redemption and hope in his darkest hours.
The film was produced with Chromosphere by Gennie Rim (Duet, June, Dear Basketball) and David Eisenmann (Pearl, Son of Jaguar) and executive produced by Karen Dufilho and Jan Pinkava and includes production design by Celine Desrumaux and technical supervision by Cassidy Curtis.
