Soggy Flakes, the latest project from the award-winning filmmaking team of Affolter brothers of Foreshadow Films (Food Flix), will screen as part of the Kids Animation/Family block at the 2018 HollyShorts Film Festival. The program will screen at noon on Saturday, August 11 at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatre in Hollywood.
Winner of the Storyhive animated short film grant, Soggy Flakes tells the story of a group of washed-up, out-of-work breakfast mascots — such as Leon the Liger, Ms. Swheatie, and Dr. Bird Berry — who form a weekly support group to help them deal with the reality of a low-carb, sugar-free and gluten-intolerant world. The chance arrival of Captain Kale, a sell-out ex-colleague at one of their meetings forces the group to re-evaluate what it means to be successful.
The short was nominated for three Canadian Screen Awards (Best Web Program, Best Direction, Best Actor) and features the voice talents of Peter New (My Little Pony), Cole Howard (The New Adventures of Peter Pan), April Cameron (The Philosophy of Phil) and David C. Jones as Captain Kale.
HollyShorts is an Oscar-qualifying film festival, with the Grand Prize winner eligible for consideration in the live-action or animated short film category. Animation highlights of the official selection include:
