Foothill Entertainment and its London affiliate Foothill Europe is bringing an animated autism awareness short to the MIPCOM market as part of its commitment to shine a light on the condition. Based on a real-life story, Jamie’s Paper Train (8 min.) is a visual metaphor for the challenges face by the millions of people with autism, produced by award-winning Canadian shop PIP Animation Studios.
“Autism is a disorder that affects 1 in 68 people globally,” said Foothill President Jo Kavanagh-Payne. “Affecting 4 to 5 times more boys than girls, we are proud to bring this condition out of the shadows to make it part of today’s global child development conversation.”
The short centers on young Jamie, who seeks comfort in an overstimulating world by indulging in his passion for making paper trains. With the love and support of his parents, Jamie spends endless hours escaping into his imaginating and forging bonds with those whom he struggles to make real-world connections with.
A combination of animation techniques, including stop-motion, 2D and 3D, brings Jamie’s story to life, as does the music of renowned maritime folk singer Jack Noble.
