Trailer: ‘UglyDolls’ Pop-Fueled Celebration of Imperfection

STX Entertainment has dropped the official trailer for its STXfilms family animated feature UglyDolls, revealing the adorably different town of Uglyville and its fabulously freaky residents.

The musical adventure centers on free-spirited Moxy (voiced by Kelly Clarkson), who loves life in her oddball town. But her curiosity leads her to wonder if there’s anything new on the other side of the mountain which shelters Uglyville. Together with her closest friends, Moxy sets out and discovers another world: Perfection, a town where more conventional dolls are trained in protocols in order to graduate and go into the “real” world to find the love of a child. In Perfection, the UglyDolls are subject to the manipulations of Lou (Nick Jonas) — the perfect doll in charge of training recruits. In the end, Moxy and co. discover that their imperfections make them perfectly themselves.

The voice cast also features Janelle Monáe, Blake Shelton, Pitbull, Wanda Sykes, Emma Roberts, Gabriel Iglesias and Wang Leehorn.

The film is slated for release May 10, 2019.

UglyDolls is directed by Kelly Asbury (Smurfs: The Lost Village, Gnomeo & Juliet, Shrek 2), written by Blaise Hemingway, Erica Rivinoja, Larry Stuckey and Alison Peck based on the characters created by David Horvath and Sun-min Kim’s popular plush line.
