Fuse Media has greenlit series Sugar and Toys for its flagship network’s 2019 programming lineup. Hailing from Black Dynamite and The Boondocks producers Carl Jones and Brian Ash, the “wild new twist on the Saturday morning cartoons” will be the first adult animation title to air on Fuse.
Sugar and Toys is a 10 x 30’ comedy made up of a kaleidoscope of animated and live-action segments ready to strip the innocence from the familiar world of cartoons — including mock toy commercials and PSA spoofs. Adult comedy, social commentary and music culture parody collide, speaking directly to the trends and issues most relevant to a millennial audience. Each episode is bookended by host segments with multi-platinum rapper and actor Kyle (The After Party) as a “self-proclaimed defender of the universe.”
Jones and Ash executive produce alongside Aengus James and Colin King Miller. Kyle (as Kyle Harvey) is co-exec producer, and cartoonist Lalo Alcaraz (cultural consultant, Coco) is consulting producer. Sugar and Toys is being produced by This Is Just a Test and 245 Enterprises.
“Our platforms are fast becoming destinations for hard-to-reach, young viewers that demand content that takes a stand by tapping into their passions and values through the musicians and influencers we feature in our series,” said J-T Ladt, Fuse Media chief content officer. “We are excited to be entering into the impactful animation space in a big way with the provocative Sugar and Toys while renewing our franchise series that are breaking audience records across all our platforms.”
