With the Netflix Original Series set to debut next Friday, January 18, the new theme song and intro animation for Carmen Sandiego has arrived! Just as the series refreshes the famous property for a new generation of fans, the theme song has evolved into a slower jam with a blend of poppy synths, flamenco influences and smooth vocals provided by Raquel Castro. The tune was written by Jared Lee Gosselin.
It’s certainly an evolution from the iconic ‘90s opening theme performed by Rockapella!
Starring Gina Rodriguez, Carmen Sandiego follows the incredible globetrotting adventures of the titular character (in her trademark red trench coat and hat) as she puts her skills as a master thief to use for good. Trained by the supervillains of V.I.L.E., Carmen rededicates her life to staying one step ahead of the evil organization — safekeeping precious artifacts by stealing them first, and vowing only to thieve from the thieves. She’s helped along by her techy sidekick, Player (Finn Wolfhard).
