The 33rd annual Goya Awards — Spain’s equivalent to the Oscars –were held Saturday night, honoring the greatest accomplishments in Spanish cinema of the past year.
Angolan civil war film Another Day of Life took the animated feature prize, on the heels of its big win at the European Film Awards. The stirring, graphic documentary style work is a co-production of Spain’s Kanaki Films with Platige Image (Poland), Walking the Dog (Belgium), Wuste Film (Germany), Animationfabrik (Germany) and Puppetworks (Hungary).
Over all, political thriller The Realm was the biggest winner of the night, scoring seven awards (best director, actor, supporting actor, original script, sound, editing, music), followed by box office hit comedy Champions with three(best film, new actor, original song “Este es el momento”).
