During an analyst call Tuesday, Viacom CEO Bob Bakish said that the company’s Nickelodeon STudios division will produced two animated movies especially for Netflix streaming, based on its hit series The Loud House and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This is good news for fans of Lincoln Loud and his family, after Paramount scrapped the planned 2020 theatrical feature.
The deal is part of broader efforts by Viacom to take advantage of properties belonging to its various entertainment brands — which has already seen Nick deliver new Pinky Malinky episodes and slate a live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender reboot for Netflix.
Bakish noted that these two movie projects would serve to help promote Nickelodeon TV content rather than competing with them, saying “This is both incremental business and powerful promotion for these two franchises.”
