Cartoonist and artist Milton Knight, who has contributed his vintage 1930s-influenced style to popular animated series The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (he is credited with designing iconic villain Dr. Robotnik for the show) and The Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat as well as comics in Heavy Metal and National Lampoon, was reportedly attacked by a man using racist epithets. Knight posted on Facebook about the attack, his hospitalization and filing charges the same day, on the night of February 25.
On March 1, he shared a brief update on Twitter. Eerily, Knight had tweeted about “the fight against racism” just weeks before, the same day he announced that a solo show of his fine art was being planned for late summer.

Knight was born in New York state and started creating at just two years old. He moved to New York City at 18, working hard and getting by and turning his creativity to everything from comic books to record covers to painting exhibitions to tee shirts. Work on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics enabled him to relocate to Los Angeles, where he continued to work in animation as a designer, animator, storyboard artist and making his directorial debut on Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat. His animation credits include Johnny Test, Class of 3000, Battletoads and Ralph Bakshi’s Cool World. Knight continued to work on independent projects including his own 10-minute short Caprice, Teen of Tomorrow.
