Late Night host Seth Meyers and his brother Josh Meyers (The Mindy Project) are blasting off with Colony 2, an animated comedy about spacefaring human pioneers coming to terms with the fact that they’ve boldly gone where someone else has gone before. The project is in development for NBCUniversal streaming platform Peacock with a script commitment.
In Colony 2, a team of the greatest minds in science arrive on a distant planet to start mankind’s first space colony — and discover that, due to advances in technology back on Earth, they’re actually the second group of colonists to arrive. The erstwhile heroes of the space age must confront the question: When you’ve been ‘number one’ your whole life, what happens when you discover you’re actually number two?
The series is produced by Sethmaker Shoemeyers Productions (A.P. Bio, The Amber Ruffin Show), FOX’s Emmy-winning animation studio Bento Box Entertainment (Bob’s Burgers, Duncanville, Central Park) and Universal Television. It is the first project announced under an overall deal struck by Seth Meyers with Universal Studio Group earlier this year.
The Meyers will executive produce the series alongside Mike Shoemaker and Jason Cardon. Scott Greenberg and Joel Kuwahara will executive produce for Bento Box.
The brothers previously collaborated on Hulu animated original comedy The Awesomes, which was created by Seth Meyers and Michael Shoemaker; Josh Meyers contributed as a writer and voice actor on the second-string superhero series.
