Nickelodeon’s Eddie Gamarra has been appointed to a newly created position of Vice President, Literary Affairs, Nickelodeon and Awesomeness. Formerly Vice President of Studio Business Development, Gamarra will now globally source, track and evaluate literary material at all publishing stages to option and develop into animated and live-action content for Nickelodeon and Awesomeness.
Based in Hollywood, Calif., Gamarra will dually report into Shauna Phelan and Zack Olin, who co-head Live-Action scripted content for Nickelodeon, Awesomeness and third-party platforms; and Ramsey Naito, President of Nickelodeon Animation.
A former college professor, Gamarra previously served as a literary manager at The Gotham Group, a multifaceted management and production company representing screenwriters, directors, animators, authors, illustrators, publishers and animation studios globally. With a primary focus on kids’ and family entertainment, Gamarra worked with numerous New York Times best-selling authors and illustrators, as well as Oscar, Emmy, Caldecott and Newbery award winners and nominees. Gamarra also served as an executive producer of The Maze Runner trilogy from 20th Century Fox, based on the New York Times best-selling book series; and Disney+’s production of Jerry Spinelli’s Stargirl.
Gamarra received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Vassar College, a Masters from New York University and a Masters/PhD from Emory University.
Upcoming animated series based on books and comics in the work with Nickelodeon include adaptations of Lincoln Peirce’s slice-of-life comedy Big Nate and Dana Simpson’s humorous modern fantasy Phoebe and Her Unicorn.
