Writers Guild of America West (WGAW) and Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE) have announced nominations for outstanding achievement in television, new media, news, radio/audio and promotional writing during 2021. Winners will be honored at the 2022 Writers Guild Awards ceremony on Sunday, March 20.
This year’s animation category is dominated by Fox toons, with the return of previous winners The Simpsons (13 wins in the category), Bob’s Burgers (one win plus nine nominations) and two-time nominee Family Guy. Joining the fray with its first WGA Award nomination is Lisa Hanawalt’s female-forward adult comedy Tuca & Bertie, which launched its second season on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block last year after debuting as a Netflix original in 2019.
