Animafest Presents Grand Competition Selection for 50th Anniversary Fest

Out of 1,800 submitted films from 91 countries from across the world, World Festival of Animated Film – Animafest Zagreb has narrowed down the official selection for the Grand Competition – Short Film, Student Film Competition and Croatian Film Competition categories of the 2022 edition.

Animafest’s artistic director Daniel Šuljić, Margit Antauer and Vesna Meštrić composed the selection committee for Short Film and Croatian Film, while Kata Gugić and Hrvoje Selec selected the Student Films.

Almost 900 films were submitted for the Grand Competition – Short Film category alone and 47 of them were selected to be presented at the festival. From 780 student submissions, 42 films were selected for the Student Film Competition, while the Croatian Film Competition will feature 18 films.

In the announcement, it was noted that “Animafest Zagreb strongly condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine.” While films created in Russia have not been barred from the program, the Festival Council has decided not to credit Russia as a country of production. “We support Russian artists whose films have been selected for the competition and who have publicly condemned the aggression,” the statement asserts.
