The highly-anticipated dark fantasy film Jujutsu Kaisen 0 premieres in theaters nationwide today (Friday, March 18), but Crunchyroll is already on a roll with its latest big screen anime release: Preview screenings across 2,003 locations (including 158 IMAX) Thursday night have already totted up $2.88 million in ticket sales. The North American run is expected to hit $10M for the anime prequel, which has grossed over $100M in Japan.
Crunchyroll hosted special advance fan screenings of the film Thursday in Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, New York and San Francisco. Hosted at AMC The Grove 14, the L.A. fan event featured English voice actors Kaiji Tang (Satoru Gojo), Lex Lang (Suguru Geto), Allegra Clark (Maki Zen’in) and Xander Mobus (Toge Inumaki). Other stars and social media personalities like Jake Choi (Single Parents) attended as well and interacted with fans.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 follows Yuta Okkotsu, a nervous high school student, who enrolls in the mysterious Tokyo Jujutsu High School under the guidance of Satoru Gojo after being haunted by the curse of his childhood friend. The film is based on the manga of the same name (JUMP COMICS / Shueisha), a prequel to the smash hit supernatural adventure series from Gege Akutami.
Available in both English dub and subtitled, the movie expands to 2,336 theaters today, including select U.S. based IMAX theaters. Tickets are on sale in the United States and Canada; more info at crunchyrollmovienight.com.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will continue its international rollout with engagements in the U.K., Ireland, Australia and New Zealand this weekend. The pic is currently screening in France and will arrive in Germany and Latin America soon.
