Brad Anderson’s beloved comic strip canine is ready to go off leash and over the top in the new 3D CG animated movie Marmaduke, set to launch in most countries through Netflix on May 6. The streamer debuted the official trailer Friday, showing what happens when the mischievous, oversized chow hound gets caught up in the world of elite dog shows.
This slapstick family comedy features the voices of Pete Davidson as the famous Great Dane, J.K. Simmons and David Koechner.
The film is directed by Mark A.Z. Dippé (Michael Jackson’s Halloween, The Reef 2), VFX veteran Matt Philip Whelan (American Gods, Hemlock Grove) and Youngki Lee (CEO/Creative Producer, StoryBerry) and written by Byron Kavanagh, based on the comics character created by Anderson. Marmaduke is produced by Legacy Classics, Andrews McMeel Ent., OneCool, Bridget McMeel, Tim Peternel and Lee.
Toronto, Shanghai and Seoul-based StoryBerry provides the animation.
Netflix picked up worldwide rights, excluding China, Hong Kong, Italy, Spain, Andorra, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Iceland, Poland, CIS, former Yugoslavia, the Baltics, Israel and MENA. SC Films handles international sales for the movie.
Marmaduke debuted in print in 1954, and currently appears in more than 660 newspapers in 20 countries around the world.
Marmaduke arrives on Netflix on May 6.
