‘The Amazing Maurice’ Will Paw Its Way to U.S. Theaters in January

Terry Pratchett’s famous orange cat The Amazing Maurice has booked his official U.S. theatrical engagement. Viva Kids Distribution (Around the World in 80 Days, Monster Family 2)  will release the Sky Original feature in the U.S. in theaters on January 13, 2023, following its Dec. 16 release date in the U.K.

Based on the book The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents, the  CG-animated feature is directed by Toby Genkel (A Stork’s Journey, All Creatures Big and Small) from a script by Terry Rossio (Aladdin, Shrek) and produced by Emely Christians, Andrew Baker and Robert Chandler. The pic is a Ulysses Filmproduktion, Narrativia and Cantilever Media production.

The story centers on a streetwise cat (voiced by Hugh Laurie) who manipulates a village of mice to take advantage of the residents of Hamelin. The colorful cast includes Emilia Clarke (as the town’s mayor’s daughter and the movie’s imaginative narrator), Himesh Patel, Gemma Arterton, Arivon Bakare, David Tennant, Hugh Bonnevile and Bob Brydon.

Best known for his Discworld series, Pratchett (1948-2015) continues to be one of the world’s most popular fantasy writers. With over 85 million books sold worldwide in 37 languages, he was the U.K.’s best-selling author of the 1990s. Many of his books have been adapted to TV series, miniseries, shorts and games, including Wyrd Sisters, Johnny and the Bomb, The Watch, The Abominable Snow Baby, and most recently, Good Omens.
