The dream team behind double Emmy-winning toon sitcom King of the Hill, Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, are developing a new animated comedy for NBCUniversal streamer Peacock, under their new Bandera Entertainment banner.
Produced by Universal Television, the show is titled Best Buds and is created by writers Caitie Delaney (Rick and Morty) and Caleb Hearon (Human Resources). The project, if it hatches to series, will be the streamer’s first adult animation title.
Best Buds centers on Calvin, who works at the titular flower shop owned by his family — the “crown jewel of the local strip mall.” When his best friend, Evelyn, comes back to town after dropping out of grad school, he gets her a job at the store and they begin the daunting task of bringing Best Buds out of its 1980s rut and into the new millennium.
Delany, Hearon, Daniels, Judge and Bandera Ent. President Dustin Davis are executive producers alongside animator Joe Bennett (FXX’s Cake, Comedy Central Re-Animated, Bedtime Stories with Abraham Willosby).
Bandera Ent. launched in January and has a number of projects in the works: Bad Crimes (Netflix), Praise Petey (Freeform), Chelm: The Smartest Place on Earth (HBO Max) and, of course, the possibile return of King of the Hill.
