30 Netflix Animation Employees Laid Off as Restructure Continues

Netflix Animation has shown the door to 30 employees as part of the streamlining overseen by incoming heads Karen Toliver (Vice President, Animation Film Content) and Traci Balthazor (Vice President, Animation Film Production). Deadline confirmed the layoffs today with Netflix.

It was not detailed in the report which positions were eliminated, however the dismissals “do not signal a downturn in animation output” for the Oscar-winning division.

Netflix’s slate of original animated features and shorts has delivered Academy Award-nominated Robin Robin, Kris Pearn’s The Willoughbys, Clare Knight and Harry Cripps’s Back to the Outback and Apollo 10 ½: A Space Age Childhood from Richard Linklater. Recent acquisitions include the Academy Award-nominated The Mitchells vs. The Machines, Vivo!, SpongeBob: Sponge on the Run (ex North America) and Wish Dragon.

Upcoming feature releases including Henry Selick’s Wendell & Wild, Nora Twomey’s My Father’s Dragon, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and an Aardman sequel Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. The streamer’s other eagerly anticipated animated series and specials include Entergalactic, Spirit Rangers, ONI: Thunder God’s Tale, Sonic Prime and My Dad the Bounty Hunter.
