Netflix was the big animation winner at last night’s Creative Emmy Awards. The streamers acclaimed shows Arcane, and Love, Death + Robots (“Jibaro”) won the Best Animated Series and Best Animated Short Form Emmys. Netflix’s Arcane, Love, Death + Robots and The House an Amazon’s The Boys Presents Diabolical were also awarded with previously announced Juried prizes, leaving network and cable favorites such as The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers and Robot Chicken empty-handed. Spanish animation director Alberto Mielgo also set a new record by winning two Emmys for his stunning Love, Death + Robots episode, “Jibaro,” only a few months after winning the Oscar for his short The Windshield Wiper.
The two nights’ worth of Creative Emmys footage will be condensed down into a two-hour recap, set to air Sept. 10 on FXX. The Primetime Emmys, will air Sept. 12 on NBC and Peacock, live from the Microsoft.
