Netflix, Sony and Disney veteran Mike Moon is launching his own adult animation label at Illumination Entertain. Moon will be the president of the new division, titled Moonlight, and will serve as creative advisor to the popular Minions studio
Moon, who parted ways with Netflix in July, sealed overall deals with Brutus Pink team (Big Mouth and Human Resources) and worked on the streamer’s A-list animated projects such as Inside Job and Entergalactic. Moon will be based out of Illumination’s Santa Monica offices.
“We have an exceptionally talented group of artists, filmmakers and producers at Illumination and believe that there is no better compliment to this team than Mike and the new company we are partnering to build,” says Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri. “He has exceptional taste, deep experience and a strong vision for the films we intend to make together.”

Moon who has worked on a wide variety of acclaimed animated projects such as The Midnight Gospel, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Mitchells vs. the Machines, Gravity Falls and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends throughout his distinguished career.He began working in the industry in the early 1990s as a background artist and designer on shows such as The Simpsons, Batman: The Animated Series and Animaniacs. He is a graduate of the renowned character animation program at California Institute of the Arts.
