Watch: Netflix Unleashes Spooky Trailer for Selick’s ‘Wendell & Wild’

Halloween may be a couple of months away, but Netflix has just unwrapped an eerie teaser for Oscar-nominated director Henry Selick’s stop-motion animated feature Wendell & Wild. The feature, which premieres on Netflix on Oct. 28, centers on scheming demon brothers Wendell (Keegan-Michael Key) and Wild (Jordan Peele), who enlist the aid of Kat Elliot — a tough teen with a load of guilt — to summon them to the Land of the Living. But what Kat demands in return leads to a brilliantly bizarre and comedic adventure like no other, an animated fantasy that defies the law of life and death, all told through the handmade artistry of stop motion.

The features is written by Selick and Oscar-winner Jordan Peele. It’s produced by Selick, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein for The Gotham Group, Peele and Win Rosenfeld for Monkeypaw. The film’s music is by Bruno Coulais (Wolfwalkers, Les Choristes). The voice cast includes Keegan-Michael Key (Key and Peele), Peele (Get Out, Us, Lyric Ross (This Is Us), Angela Bassett (Black Panther), James Hong (Kung Fu Panda), Tamara Smart, Natalie Martinez, Tantoo Cardinal, Gabrielle Dennis, Igal Naor, David Harewood, Maxine Peake, Ramona Young, Sam Zelaya, Seema Virdi, Gary Gatewood, and Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction).

Wendell & Wild will have its world premiere at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival on September 11. The movie (and our special interview with Henry Selick) is Animation Magazine’s cover story for next month (Issue No. 324), available October 5.
