The winners of the 37th Imagen Awards (imagen.org), recognizing positive portrayals of Latinos in the media, have been announced, and this year is an especially animated highlight! Disney’s acclaimed CG feature Encanto won four awards, for Best Feature Film, Best Director (where it was the sole animated nominee) and both music honors.
PBS KIDS series Alma’s Way, created by beloved Sesame Street star Sonia Manzano, scored a double win, and Jorge R. Gutierrez scored the Best Director – Television prize for his stunning mythological Netflix event series Maya and the Three.
The winners were chosen by an independent panel of entertainment industry executives and Latina and Latino community leaders.
The pre-recorded awards ceremony will broadcast on PBS SoCal on Saturday, October 29 at 6 p.m. PDT; on KCET on Wednesday, November 2 at 7 p.m. PT; and streaming on pbs.org.
