Last year’s runaway awards season favorite Encanto has added another accolade to its long list, topping the Nielsen chart of 2022’s most-watched streaming movies. Directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, the Walt Disney Animation Studios picture streamed ahead with 27.416 billion minutes viewed on Disney+, more than double the runner-up and enough time to watch the whole movie over 268 million times.
The 15-titled list is dominated by nine animated features — in fact, the top four are all CG blockbusters: Encanto, Turning Red (Pixar/Disney), Sing 2 (Illumination/Universal) and Moana (Disney). Disney hits Frozen (which will hit its 10th anniversary of release this year), Frozen II and Zootopia also made the cut, joined by Pixar’s Luca and Coco. All the top 15 films listed were streamed on either Disney+ or Netflix.
The top toons were:
- Encanto 2021 (Disney+) — 27.416B min. — No. 1
