Universal Pictures is sending Illumination’s eagerly awaited video game adaptation The Super Mario Bros. Movie down the pipes a little early this spring, bumping the plucky plumber’s release date up to Wednesday, April 5 from April 7. This will put the 3D CG Nintendo adventure in theaters ahead of Easter weekend for families worldwide to enjoy.
Produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo and released worldwide by Universal Pictures, The Super Mario Bros. Movie will launch across more than 60 territories on opening day. Additional markets in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Easter Europe will welcome Mario through April and May, including Japan which will see a Golden Week release on April 28.
Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (Teen Titans Go!, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies) from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel (The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, Minions: The Rise of Gru), the film stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.

Spin Master Entertainment, Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Pictures had also announced they will be unleashing the littlest moviegoers’ hot ticket of the fall early, moving the sequel PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie up to Friday, September 29 from its previous October 13 date. Based on the hit preschool series, the second movie brings back director Cal Brunker (PAW Patrol: The Movie, Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature) and his writing partner Bob Barlen (PAW Patrol: The Movie, Bigfoot Family), who takes on the role of associate producer.
The sequel welcomes new voice talent including Golden Globe winner Taraji P. Henson, Kristen Bell, Christian Convery, Mckenna Grace, Lil Rel Howery, James Marsden, Finn Lee-Epp, Serena Williams, Alan Kim, Brice Gonzalez, North West, Luxton Handspiker, Christian Corrao and Nylan Parthipan, joining returning stars Kim Kardashian, Marsai Martin, Ron Pardo and Callum Shoniker.
Spin Master’s Jennifer Dodge (President of Entertainment), Laura Clunie (SVP Development Current Series & Feature Film) and Toni Stevens (SVP Entertainment Production & Operations) are producers; while Co-Founder Ronnen Harary, Executive Vice President Adam Beder and Peter Schlessel executive produce.
Synopsis: When a magical meteor crash lands in Adventure City, it gives the PAW Patrol pups superpowers, transforming them into The Mighty Pups! For Skye, the smallest member of the team, her new powers are a dream come true. But things take a turn for the worse when the pups’ archrival Humdinger breaks out of jail and teams up with Victoria Vance, a meteor-obsessed mad scientist, to steal the superpowers and turn themselves into supervillains. With the fate of Adventure City hanging in the balance, the Mighty Pups have to stop the supervillains before it’s too late, and Skye will need to learn that even the smallest pup can make the biggest difference.
