Corus Entertainment is queueing up a retro rewind for classic Canadian toons fans this month! After 32 years, audiences can return to Evergreen Forest in the fully restored and remastered series The Raccoons, launching Monday, March 27 on the brand-new Boomerang channel.
The Gemini Award-winning series created by Kevin Gillis first aired in the 1980s & ’90s. Now, The Raccoons has been painstakingly restored and remastered from the original 35mm film elements to 4K using the original artwork as color correction references. Corus Ent. notes that this was the last on-shore hand-drawn, cel animated, shot on film series made 100% in Canada. The Raccoons has also been honored with the Canadian Minister of the Environment Award for Communicating Environmental Awareness.
Synopsis: The Evergreen Forest is home to a group of adventurous raccoons, led by our kind-hearted hero Bert, along with his childhood friends and married couple Ralph and Melissa, best buddy Cedric (who happens to be the son of Cyril Sneer and heir to the Sneer empire), his girlfriend Sophia,\ and their faithful sheepdog pal, Schaeffer.
Watch as the friends of the forest face off against the villainous Cyril Sneer to protect their woodland home from the greedy tycoon. The gang teams up to create a newspaper, The Evergreen Standard, led by Ralph, and sets out to take on deforestation and teach valuable lessons about the importance of protecting the land for all.
