BAFTA-Winning Video Game ‘Vampire Survivors’ Spawns Animated Series

Luca Galante’s shoot ’em up monster mash Vampire Survivors is making the leap from viral hit video game to animated series, with Story Kitchen announcing it has partnered with Galatne’s development label poncle to adapt the gothic horror/comedy concept — described as “Vox Machina meets Castlevania.”

Vampire Survivors is a casual, time survival game with rogue-lite elements wherein players can select one of the hero characters to “mow down thousands of night creatures and survive until dawn.” The story is set in modern-day rural italy, where the evil Draculó has summoned hordes of monsters to ravage the land, with only the Belpaese family and other survivors left to clean up the monster-infested remains of their town.

The indie title was released in 2022 and has received several prestige honors, including Best Game and Game Design from the British Academy with three additional nominations.

The series development partners are currently looking for a writer.

Vampire Survivors is the latest game adaptation announced by Story Kitchen, which was founded by John Wick creator Derek Kolstad, Sonic the Hedgehog movie producer Dmitri M. Johnson and former APA agent/partner Mike Goldberg. The company is currently working on TV adaptations of It Takes Two and Toejam for Prime Video, Tomb Raider and Splinter Cell for Netflix, and Streets of Rage for Lionsgate.
