Hasbro’s beloved robots in disguise are returning for a new fully-animated big screen adventure next year in Transformers One, from the toy brand’s entertainment division eOne and Paramount Animation. The voice cast and plot hints have been revealed for the pic, slated for July 19, 2024 — 38 years after their 2D feature Transformers: The Movie hit theaters.
From CinemaCon today, Paramount Animation announced that the film will be an origin story set on the Transformers’ secret home world of Cybertron, before they came to Earth, centering on Optimus Prime (voiced by Chris Hemsworth) and Megatron (Bryan Tyree Henry) as they come of age and turn from brothers-in-arms to sworn enemies.
The bot roster for Transformers One also includes Elita (Scarlett Johansson), Bumblebee (Keegan-Michael Key), Sentinel Prime (Jon Hamm) and Alpha Trion (Laurence Fishburne).
Oscar-winning director Josh Cooley (Pixar’s Toy Story 4) is helming the project, with a script by Ant-Man and the Wasp duo Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari.
In related news, Paramount also showed the latest footage from this summer’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which brings back fan favorites Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and more Autobots. The human stars of the new chapter in the franchise, directed by Steven Caple Jr. are Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback. Michelle Yeoh, Pete Davidson, Peter Dinklage, Michaela Jae Rodriguez and Ron Perlman round up the cast. The movie, which is set in the ’90s, opens on June 9th.
