Web-heads, superhero movie buffs and animation lovers are getting excited for the summer release of Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse! Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, Miles Morales, returns to the big screen on June 2.
According to Deadline, the second trailer for the highly anticipated release totted up 148.6 million views in the first 24 hours, firmly setting it as the Spider-Verse franchise’s most-viewed spot as well as the day one most-viewed second trailer for any Marvel movie and the most-viewed trailer for a Summer ’23 superhero flick.
Across the Spider-Verse Trailer 2 surpassed the 24-hour trailer watch totals for upcoming Marvel sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (116.9M views; May 5) and DC outing The Flash (81.6M; June 16). It also beat second trailer numbers for several recent Marvel releases, including Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson from a script by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller and David Callaham. The sequel reunites Miles (voiced by Shameik Moore) with Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) before rocketing into the Multiverse, where he discovers an elite team of Spider-People guarding all of existence. When Miles disagrees with their plan to defeat a new threat, he must redefine what it means to be a hero in order to save what he loves most.
The third film in the franchise, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is slated for March 29, 2024.
