‘The Freak Brothers’ S1 Hustles to Digital Release

From the world of underground comix and based on Gilbert Shelton’s most popular creation, the adult animated series The Freak Brothers Season 1 arrives on Digital on April 17 from Lionsgate. The eight-episode collection will be available for the SRP of $9.99.

Synopsis: Based on Shelton’s The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, the Tubi original series chronicles the escapades of three cannabis-loving, time-traveling “Freaks” from the late 1960s who wake up from a 50-year nap after smoking a magical strain of weed in 1969, and must adjust to life with a new family in present-day San Francisco.

The Freak Brothers features the voices of Academy Award nominee Woody Harrelson (True Detective, Zombieland) as Freewheelin’ Franklin Freek, Pete Davidson (SNL, The King of Staten Island) as Phineas T. Phreakears, Primetime Emmy Award winner John Goodman (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, The Righteous Gemstones) as Fat Freddy Freekowtski and Primetime Emmy Award winner Tiffany Haddish (Like a Boss, Tuca & Bertie) as Fat Freddy’s cat, Kitty.

Additional voices include Liza Del Mundo, Andrea Savage, La La Anthony, Phil LaMarr, Adam Devine, Blake Anderson and Schoolboy Q.

Animated by Starburns Industries (Rick and Morty) and Pure Imagination Studios (The Simpsons), The Freak Brothers Season 1 is written and produced by Silicon Valley alums Dave Krinsky and John Altschuler, and Highly Gifted‘s Daniel and Jeremy Lehrer. Tubi announced a Season 2 renewal in May 2022; a release date is TBA.
