Preparations are underway for the 12th Pixelatl Festival, taking place September 5-9 in Guadalajara, Mexico. One important aspect, the event’s signature visuals for 2023, will be handled by the newly announced festival creative partner.
Lucy Animation in Colombia will be in charge of creating the artwork, visual identity and official festival trailer. The studio is the latest to partner with Pixelatl Festival and Market, which each year teams up with a different studio in order to showcase local animation talent to the world. This year marks the first this honor has gone to a studio outside of Mexico.
“We are excited about working with Lucy Animation. They are a female-led studio that represents the spirit and goals of Pixelatl. They started as a small indie studio just a few years ago to grow into one of Colombia’s largest and most promising studios based on their stunning art and unique storytelling,” commented Jose Iñesta, Pixelatl Director. “Pixelatl has always fostered coproductions and relationships among Latin America and having an international creative partner was a natural step for us.”
Lucy Animation’s mission is to showcase the beauty of Latin American culture and history through their animations, and to give a platform to the incredible talent that has been overlooked for far too long.
With a short film in production, two completed pilots, a feature film and two series in development, Lucy has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Marvel, Cartoon Network, Apple TV, Netflix, Paramount, Adult Swim, TED-Ed and Sony. Lucy has won international awards from Ventana Sur, Chilemonos, Encuentros Colombia, Pixelatl, Cinekid, FDC (Colombian Film Fund) and others.
