Hungarian filmmaker Flóra Anna Buda’s animated short 27 has won the prestigious Palme D’Or for Best Short at the 2023 edition of the Cannes Film Festival. The Hungarian-French 2D-animated short, which is distributed by Miyu, centers on a 27-year-old woman named Alice who feels suffocated by her surroundings as she still lives with her parents and her annoying younger brother. She finds escape from her boring life by escaping into her dream world. One night after attending a psychedelic party on the roof of a factory, she is involved in a serious drunken bike accident? Will this scary incident push her into making some big changes in her life?

Pixar’s summer release Elemental was the festival’s closing feature. Filmmakers Peter Sohn (director), Denise Ream (producer) and Pete Docter (EP and CCO of Pixar) joined English-language voice talent Leah Lewis (Ember) and Mamoudou Athie (Wade), plus members of the French-language voice cast Adèle Exarchopoulos (Ember) and Vincent Lacoste (Wade) for the film’s big global premiere at the event on Saturday. Pixar also released a new clip from the movie yesterday, which opens on June 16.
