Spain’s DeAPlaneta Entertainment and French studio Mediawan Kids & Family are collaborating to co-produce Karters, a new IP for children. DeAPlaneta Entertainment will also be the distributor of the animated series in some territories (Iberia, Eastern Europe, Central Europe, Greece, Turkey, Italy and Latin America), its worldwide licensing and merchandising agent as well as exclusive agent for digital and gaming rights globally (excluding China).
Karters, described as a colorful mix of My Little Pony and the wild races of Mario Kart, is based on a powerful concept: every girl is an adventurer. The series takes place in Unicornia, a faraway kingdom where five kids, riding awesome karts, zoom and pop a wheelie their way through dangerous battles and awesome adventurers to rescue magical unipets and save the realm. According to the producers, the show promotes themes and values such as the bonds of friendship, girl power, and the importance of never giving up. DeAPlaneta Entertainment’s team introduced the new brand this week at the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas this week.
The co-production is part of a wider strategic deal whereby DeAPlaneta Entertainment will be the master licensing agent for some of Mediawan Kids & Family’s most relevant brands. With this agreement, DeAPlaneta Entertainment will be in charge of developing from scratch some of Mediawan Kids & Family’s most important IPs. As Master Licensing Agent, DeAPlaneta Entertainment will be the exclusive licensing and merchandising agent for Mediawan Kids & Family brands in almost all territories, including France, but with some exceptions (as China); it will also manage the digital, interactive, gaming and Web3 rights for these brands.
In addition to Karters, other confirmed IPs included in the agreement between DeAPlaneta Entertainment and Mediawan Kids & Family are the upcoming animated series The Three Musketeers and Witch Detectives. DeAPlaneta Entertainment will be the licensing and merchandising agent, as well as the agent of digital, Gaming and Web3 rights for these brands globally, with some exceptions. Other Mediawan Kids & Family brands included in the agreement will be unveiled in the near future.
