Get ready for the live-action version of Monkey D. Luffy and his ragtag band of pirates! Netflix revealed the first look at its live-action adaptions of two hugely popular animated series, Toei Animation’s One Piece and Nickelodeon’s beloved Avatar: The Last Airbender series on Saturday, during its Tudum presentation.
Based on the best-selling manga title by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece centers on the magical adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew as they explore exotic islands and endless oceans in search for the ultimate treasure One Piece to become the next Pirate King.
Iñaki Godoy stars as Monkey D. Luffy, along with the Straw Hats played by Mackenyu (Roronoa Zoro), Emily Rudd (Nami), Jacob Romero Gibson (Usopp) and Taz Skylar (Sanji). Cast includes includes McKinley Belcher III, Morgan Davies, Aidan Scott, Vincent Regan, Jeff Ward, Craig Fairbrass, Langley Kirkwood, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Chioma Umeala and Steven Ward.
One Piece is exec produced by Steven Maeda (Lost, The X-Files) and Matt Owens (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Luke Cage). Oda, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements also executive produce. One Piece is produced by Tomorrow Studios and Netflix in partnership with Shueisha. The new show will premiere on August 31.

Netflix also released its first look of its Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series as part of the Tudum fan event in São Paulo, Brazil, the cast previewed a teaser and images of the new show which will feature Kiawentiio (Katara), Ian Ousley (Sokka), Dallas Liu (Prince Zuko) and Gordon Cormier (Aang) as the cast of the 2024 show.
Based on the Emmy-winning Nickelodeon animated series created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko which ran from 2005 to 2008, the new show takes place in a world that is divided into four nations: the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads. The Benders can telekinetically manipulate and control the element corresponding to their nation, using gestures based on Chinese martial arts. This new version of the franchise is exec produced and written by Albert Kim (Sleeping Hollow, Nikita). Dan Link, Lindsey Liberatore and Michael Goi are exec producers. The show will be directed by Goi, Roseanne Liang, Jabbar Raisani an Jet Wilkinson.
