Ryan Reynolds Revs Up ‘Biker Mice from Mars’ Reboot

Another 1990s cartoon classic is revving up to burn rubber to its screen revival, with the news that actor, producer and motorcycle enthusiast Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool films, Free Guy, upcoming Dragon’s Lair: The Movie) and his Maximum Effort banner have signed on to co-produce The Nacelle Company’s reboot of Biker Mice from Mars. This latest take on the sci-fi action toon is also being co-produced by television streaming service Fubo.

Synopsis: On the planet Mars, there existed a race of anthropomorphic mice who enjoyed motorsports and had a very similar culture and society to that of human beings. Eventually, they were all but wiped out by the Plutarkians, an alien race of obese, foul-smelling, worm-eating, fish-like humanoids who plunder other planets for their natural resources.

Three survivors: Throttle, Modo, and Vinnie, manage to find a spaceship and escape the Plutarkian takeover. They soon find themselves crash-landing on Earth in Chicago. Along with a charming female mechanic named Charlene “Charley” Davidson, the Biker Mice must defend Earth and defeat the villainous Plutarkians in an attempt to finally return to their homeland of Mars.

Created by former Marvel Productions President Rick Ungar and executive produced by Stan Lee, Biker Mice from Mars originally aired for three seasons from 1993-96, with an impressive cast of V.O. royalty and on-screen stars such as Rob Paulsen, Dorian Harewood, Ian Ziering, Brian Austin Green, Leah Remini, Kath Soucie, Michael Dorn, Jason Priestley, Brad Garrett, Luke Perry, Mark Hamill, Jeff Bennet, Malcolm McDowell, Jess Harnell, Tori Spelling and more. An additional 28-episode season was produced as a 2006 revival.

The original series premiered in syndication, and was obtained by Disney in 2001 as part of its Fox Kids Worldwide acquisition (which included Marvel Prods.) Nacelle obtained rights to the property and launched a new Biker Mice from Mars toy line earlier this year.

The reboot pilot will be directed by executive producer Brian Volk-Weiss — the founder of Nacelle, which has produced the Emmy-winning Down to Earth with Zac Efron, NAACP Image Award-winning Kevin Hart’s Guide to Black History and The Toys That Made Us (all Netflix), Behind the Attraction (Disney+), Center Seat: 55 Years of Star Trek (History Channel) and more.

Also serving as executive producers on the new series are Cisco Henson, Matt Kravitsky and Michael Goodman for Nacelle; George Dewey, Kevin Hill, Patrick Gooing and Reynolds for Maximum Effort; and David Gandler and Pamela Duckworth for Fubo.
