Adult Swim has released a new teaser for the eagerly anticipated seventh season of cult favorite Rick and Morty. The exact date for the premiere will be announced this week (sources have already noted it will be sometime in September).
The series, which has been nominated for an Emmy this year for Season Six’s “Night Family” episode, has made a lot of news since Justin Roiland, the co-creator and voice of both Rick and Morty, was arrested on a count of felony domestic assault dating back to 2020. Although the charges were later dropped, both Adult Swim and Hulu decided to cut ties with Roiland. According to the producers, a replacement voice actor or actors will be taking over the roles of Rick Sanchez, Morty Smith and a variety of other characters this season.
The new trailer shows footage of evil genius Rich Sanchez as he wreaks havoc in different dimensions and timelines in various personas as Smashing Pumpkin’s “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” plays in the background. First introduced in Dec. 2013, the series is one of the most popular adult animated series of the decade and has won two Emmys and two Annies to date. Originally created by Roiland and Dan Harmon, the show also features the voices of Chris Parnell, Spencer Grammer and Sarah Chalke.
