CBeebies in the U.K. and France Télévisions have jointly commissioned a brand-new 3D animated preschool series, Big Lizard, co-produced by U.K. animation studio Beakus and French production companies Watch Next Media and Je Suis Bien Content. The rights division of multi-Academy Award- and BAFTA-winning indie studio Aardman is handling global distribution for the 52 x 7’ show, which is scheduled to launch in Autumn
2024.
Featuring a voice cast including Josh Widdicombe (The Last Leg, QI, Taskmaster) as Dad, Mandip Gill (Hollyoaks, Doctor Who) as D.O.R.I.S. and Lois Sefton (123 Number Squad) as Cosima, Big Lizard was created by Amaël Isnard and Steve Smith (Beakus). Isnard will also direct the show, and Smith will produce alongside Je Suis Bien Content’s Franck Ekinci.
Big Lizard is a comedy-adventure series about a young astronaut called Cosima and a big lizard called… Big Lizard! The series mixes in some light education about science and prehistoric planet Earth.
Imagine having a whole alien planet to explore with your new best friend who happens to be a fun-loving Big Lizard! Cosmic!
“We are delighted to be partnering with such an amazing team to produce this brilliant, funny and unique show,” said Smith. “Big Lizard has all the ingredients it needs to enchant audiences and parents alike.”
Philippe Alessandri, CEO of Watch Next Media, and co-creator Ekinci added, “Following the success of Roger and Hello Kitty Super Style, Watch Next and JSBC are happy to consolidate their expertise in producing 3D animated series for preschoolers with Big Lizard.”
