DreamWorks Animation is unwrapping a prequel chapter in The Bad Guys franchise in a new holiday special for Netflix, The Bad Guys: A Very Bad Holiday. First-look images and a brand-new voice cast were debuted for the 23-minute family adventure, which will premiere on the streamer Thursday, November 30 — almost exactly a year since the project was announced.
Synopsis: In this new adventure set before the events of the feature, there’s nothing the Bad Guys love more than Christmas morning — because while everyone is home opening presents, it’s the perfect time to execute their city-wide holiday heist. But when Christmas is unexpectedly canceled, the Bad Guys must do the unthinkable: reignite the city’s holiday spirit by giving instead of taking.
A Very Bad Holiday brings together a new roster of voice talent to perform the popular animal crooks: Michael Godere (The Affair) takes over as Wolf, Ezekiel Ajeigbe (Outer Banks) as Shark, Raul Ceballos (The Boss Baby: Back in the Crib) as Piranha, Chris Diamantopoulos (American Dad!) as Snake and Mallory Low (Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles) as Tarantula, with Zehra Fazal (Dew Drop Diaries) as Tiffany Fluffit.
Additional voices include Keith Silverstein (Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir) as Gary the Shaved Ice Vendor and Kari Wahlgren (Star Trek: Lower Decks) as DJ Trudy Tude.
Godere provided some additional voice work for the original feature film.
The new special is directed by Emmy Award winner Bret Haaland (The Penguins of Madagascar. Fast & Furious Spy Racers, All Hail King Julien).
Praised for its innovative, painterly approach to CG animation, The Bad Guys was produced by DreamWorks Animation and earned a number of awards season recognitions, including the Annie Award for character design in an animated feature (along with four other nominations). Based on the book by Aaron Blabey, the film was directed by Pierre Perifel (Bilby; animator, Kung Fu Panda films) and featured the voices of Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, Awkwafina, Craig Robinson and Anthony Ramos as the core gang.
