‘Leo’ Is on the Loose in New Trailer for Netflix’s Adam Sandler Toon

Adam Sandler brings a classroom pet lizard in his golden years to life in Leo, the new CG-animated family feature coming to Netflix on November 21. Sandler’s Happy Madison produced the comedy-adventure, which was also written by the comedy icon alongside Robert Smigel and Paul Sado.

In the official trailer released today, viewers are whipped along on Leo’s tail as he tastes freedom outside the terrarium and inspires the students as a scaly sage — backed by an appropriately retro rock soundtrack. New stills and a behind-the-scenes shot of Sandler and co-star Bill Burr were also unleashed.

Synopsis: Actor and comedian Adam Sandler (Hotel Transylvania, The Wedding Singer) delivers signature laughs in this coming-of-age animated musical comedy about the last year of elementary school — as seen through the eyes of a class pet.

Jaded 74-year-old lizard Leo (Sandler) has been stuck in the same Florida classroom for decades with his terrarium-mate turtle (Bill Burr). When he learns he only has one year left to live, he plans to escape to experience life on the outside but instead gets caught up in the problems of his anxious students — including an impossibly mean substitute teacher. It ends up being the strangest but most rewarding bucket list ever…

The voice cast also features Cecily Strong, Jason Alexander, Rob Schneider, Sadie Sandler, Sunny Sandler, Jackie Sandler, Heidi Gardner, Nick Swardson, Nicholas Turturro, Robert Smigel, Jo Koy and Stephanie Hsu.

Leo is directed by Robert Marianetti, Robert Smigel and David Wachtenheim. You can read about the making of the movie in next month’s issue of Animation Magazine (Issue No. 335).
