Watch: Pokémon Debuts New ‘Detective Pikachu’ Animated Short

Time to rise and shine with the world’s greatest electric-rodent detective! The official Pokémon YouTube Channel has launched a new CG-animated short, Detective Pikachu & the Mystery of the Missing Flan. In the six-minute domestic comedy, Detective Pikachu faces false accusations of snack thievery, and must navigate a web of false leads to uncover the real dessert-napper.

Detective Pikachu just wants to film his morning routine, but Tim has a bigger problem: his flan has disappeared from the fridge! It’s definitely a mysterious case, but if anyone can solve it, this dynamic duo can in the animated short Detective Pikachu & the Mystery of the Missing Flan!

The short is available to watch in 19 countries/territories in multiple localized language versions.

Introduce in the 2016 Nintendo 3DS game of the same name, Detective Pikachu has proven a popular character in the Pokémon narrative universe, inspiring 2019’s hit live-action/CG hybrid movie, Pokémon Detective Pikachu. Directed by Rob Letterman (Shark Tale) and featuring the voice of Ryan Reynolds ad Pikachu, the film became the second-highest-grossing video game-based movie of all time with a worldwide box office of $433 million.

A second video game, developed by Creatures for the Nintendo Switch, titled Detective Pikachu Returns debuted at the beginning of October. A sequel to the feature film has been in development with Legendary Entertainment since before the original’s release. Earlier this year, the studio announced it had attached Jonathan Krisel to direct and Chris Galleta to write the screenplay. Krisel is a longtime collaborator of Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim (Tom Goes to the Mayor, Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job, Moonbase 8) and creator of Baskets, with TV credits including Portlandia and Kroll Show; he is due to make his feature directorial debut with an untitled Sesame Street movie.
