A festive tradition continues as The Animation Guild presents online and in-person holiday markets showcasing the talents of its Union members. Both markets will offer unique gifts that have been hand-crafted by animation pros behind popular TV shows and movies. Shoppers will find tufted rugs, unique jewelry, woodwork, stickers, clothing, plush toys, art and more, offering a great way to “shop local” and support artists.
The 2023 markets will feature works by more than 40 members of The Animation Guild. Some highlights of the selection include:
- Senior lighting & compositing artist Chris Nabholz has worked on Encanto and Wish. He also works in a ceramic studio making elegant cups, bowls and pots out of various clays.
- With credits including Sanjay and Craig, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Big Nate, Diana Grigorian makes one-of-a-kind steampunk jewelry using industrial metals and watch gears.
- Daniel Khachatoorian is a design coordinator on Rick and Morty. On his off time, he makes short animation and converts frames into lenticular prints for art, keychains and more.
- Most recently a staff writer on Zokie of Planet Ruby, Janae Hall creates playful hand-tufted rugs using original patterns and inspiration from pop culture.
- A location designer on Big City Greens, Kate McMillan studied traditional boatbuilding in Norway. She works with knots and grain patterns to create unique wood products.
The in-person market will be held Thursday, December 7 (6-9 p.m. PST at The Animation Guild at 1105 N. Hollywood Way in Burbank. The online version runs November 22 to December 18, accessible at animationguild.org/2023HolidayMarket.
