Trailer: New ‘Despicable Me’ Short ‘Mooned’ Takes Flight with ‘Migration’

Following a teaser shared to the official Minions TikTok account this weekend, which teased the poster for a new Despicable Me spin-off short, Monday (appropriately) saw the debut of the official trailer for Mooned. The new CG short will screen ahead of Illumination’s new original comedy-adventure, Migration (flapping its way to theaters on December 22 through Universal Pictures).

Titled Mooned, the short will catch Gru’s crew up on what befell the first film’s main antagonist, Vector, and the Minion left stranded on the Moon with him at the end of Despicable Me. Jason Segal returns as the voice of Vector, and, as ever, franchise director Pierre Coffin will provide vocalizations for the bumbling yellow blobs.

Directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Benjamin Renner (Ernest & Celestine, The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales) and co-directed by Guylo Homsy from a screenplay by Mike White, Migration centers on a family of Mallard ducks — anxious dad Mack (Kumail Nanjiani), daring mom Pam (Elizabeth Banks), confident son Dax (Casper Jennings) and lovable baby daughter Gwen (newcomer Tresi Gazal) — who decide to shake up their routine with an epic family flight, which quickly goes awry.

The voice cast also features Awkafina, Carole Kane, Keegan-Michael Key, David Mitchell and Danny DeVito.
