FOX has given a script commitment to adult animated series concept Taskmasters, a workplace comedy about the gig economy.
The project hails from writer-producer Brian Keith Etheridge (Mythic Quest, The Ranch), writer-comedian Brendon Walsh (The Midnight Gospel, Pickle & Peanut, Crank Yankers) and writer-cartoonist Johnny Ryan, whose edgy comix and illustrations have appeared in The Portland Mercury, MAD, LA Weekly, The Stranger and Hustler as well as National Geographic Kids and Nickelodeon Magazine. Ryan is the creator of Angry Youth Comix (Fantagraphics) and, with Dave Cooper, the animated kids’ series Pig Goat Banana Cricket (Nickelodeon).
Co-written by the creator trio, Taskmasters is a half-hour series that follows a crew of “lovable wackos” making ends meet working at a “we’ll do any job” outfit serving the gig economy. The series will also incorporate prank calls to real life customers.
Etheridge, who is repped by Gersh and Avalon Management, serves as showrunner for Taskmasters, and executive produces with Walsh and Ryan. The series is produced by Fox Entertainment Studios and its owned animation shop, Bento Box Entertainment.
