Sales agent Global Screen has secured additional deals which will see the third Niko movie soar to major territories in the near future. The previous films — Niko and the Way to the Stars (2008) and Niko – Little Brother, Big Trouble (2012) sold to more than 120 countries around the world, selling 750,000-plus tickets in Germany alone.
Part three, Niko – Beyond the Northern Lights, has been picked up by Viva Kids for all North American Rights. Other new deals for the pic include Flins y Piniculas (Spain), CDC (Latin America), Nos Lusomundo (Portugal), Grand Entertainment (Middle East) and SVOE Kino (Ukraine).
These join previously announced pacts with Kino Swiat (Poland), Bluelabel (South Korea), Just4Kids (Benelux), GPI (Baltics), Karantanija (former Yugoslavia), Vertigo (Hungary), Zinos Panagiotidis (Greece), Bad Unicorn (Romania), Bohemia Motion Pictures (Slovakia & Czechia), Pro Film (Bulgaria), Bir Film (Turkey) and Bac Films (France).
Synopsis: After a tearful goodbye, Niko leaves his family behind to take his place next to his father, Prance, on Santa’s Flying Forces. For Niko, it’s a dream come true: to become a hero, like his father. But Stella, an unknown challenger arrives, to compete for Niko’s spot. Despite their competitiveness, Niko admires her, and invites Stella to show her where Santa’s sleigh is hidden. However, on the night before Christmas Eve, Stella steals it. Gutted by Stella’s betrayal and desperate to appease his angry father, Niko heads to the Frozen North to recover the sleigh. Accompanied by his loyal friends, flying squirrel Julius and weasel Wilma. In the ensuing battle, between The Flying Forces and The Storm Forces, Niko and Stella split off to prevent the sleigh from being destroyed. As our heroes face grave danger, difficult choices are made that change Christmas forever.
Directed by by returning franchise helmers Kari Juusonen and Jørgen Lerdam from a script by Kari Juusonen, Hannu Tuomainen and Marteinn Thorisson, Niko – Beyond the Northern Lights is produced by Finnish studio Animaker in co-production with Germany’s Ulysses Films (The Amazing Maurice), Ireland’s Moetion Films (Ooops! Noah Is Gone…) and Denmark’s A. Film Production (Luis and the Aliens).
Global Screen has also debuted a new teaser trailer for the film, which you can watch on the company’s website here. Niko – Beyond the Northern Lights will make its theatrical debut in Scandinavia on October 11.
