Odin’s Eye Entertainment, the Australia-based independent film sales agency which has handled the adult animated comedy Bad Cat as well as family titles like Foodiverse and Dino King, has snagged international rights to the retro-Hollywood-inspired horror-comedy, The Weird Kidz. The hand-drawn feature film is directed, written and solo animated over eight years by Zach Passero (Isolation, Wicked Lake). Odin’s Eye will launch the film at the European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin this week.
Synopsis: The Weird Kidz is a horror-inflected creature feature and an ode to ’80s coming-of-age films and favorite late night cinema tales. When three pre-teen boys and an older brother and his girlfriend take off for a weekend campout, none of them could imagine the horrors (and laughs) awaiting them in a remote desert inhabited by a legendary night creature and crazed townfolk. Puberty and adventure await … along with terror, amputations and midnight cult rituals!
The voice cast features Ellar Coltrane (Boyhood), Tess Passero, Angela Bettis (Girl Interrupted) and Sean Bridgers (Room, Deadwood). Producers are Lucky Mckee (Poker Face, The Woman) and Charles Horak (First Date, Wim Wenders Desperado).
The Weird Kidz premiered at London’s FrightFest and has screened at a number of both horror-specific and animation-dedicated festivals, including Annecy, Dead of Night Film Festival, Anifilm, Horror Fest, Sitges Family, Strasbourg, Soho Horror and more.
Odin’s Eye is handling all international rights to the U.S.-produced indie excluding North America, which is under the purview of Virgil Films.
