UCLA Festival of Preservation Presents Classic Fleischer, Terry & Moser Toons

Now in its 21st edition, the biennial UCLA Festival of Preservation showcases the UCLA Film & Television Archive’s latest preservation and restoration projects on the big screen. This year’s program, spanning the silent film era to the Golden Age of Television to 1990s indie films, includes a spotlight on iconic animation works brought back to their original shine.

Restored Animation Classics will feature restorations of several films (with sponsorship from ASIFA-Hollywood) including the restoration world premieres of Frank Moser’s French Fried (1930), Burt Gillett and Ted Eshbaugh’s Japanese Lanterns (1935), Dave Fleischer’s Hold It! (1938) and Anything to Please Red Riding Hood (1946), Max Fleischer’s Superman Trailer (1941) and Dave Fleischer & Shamus Culhane’s A Kick in Time (1940). The lineup also features Dave Fleischer & Seymour Kneitel’s Musical Memories (1935).

The free screening will be held April 6 at 10 a.m. at the Billy Wilder Theater; seating is first come, first served. Reserved seating is available exclusively to Hammer Museum members through the box office (open one hour before the day’s program).
